{"id":1323,"date":"2018-05-08T14:17:51","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T14:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/groups.tecnico.ulisboa.pt\/~larsys.daemon\/?page_id=1323"},"modified":"2018-07-18T15:14:22","modified_gmt":"2018-07-18T15:14:22","slug":"evolutionary-systems-and-biomedical-engineering-lab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/groups.tecnico.ulisboa.pt\/~larsys.daemon\/evolutionary-systems-and-biomedical-engineering-lab\/","title":{"rendered":"Evolutionary Systems and Biomedical Engineering Lab ( LaSEEB)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.laseeb.org\">The Evolutionary Systems and Biomedical Engineering Lab (LaSEEB)<\/a> conducts interdisciplinary research in Biomedical Engineering and Bioinspired Systems, across areas such as Electrical\u00a0Engineering, Physics, Neuroscience, Psychology and Biology, focusing on biosignals and biomedical imaging, particularly in\u00a0neuroscience and neuroengineering applications.<\/p>\n<p>LaSEEB has extensive expertise in biological and biomedical imaging techniques ranging from cell microscopy to ultrasound and\u00a0magnetic resonance imaging, as well as the acquisition and processing of biosignals. LaSEEB also has a long history in evolutionary\u00a0computing, swarm intelligence and agent-based\u00a0simulations, particularly in what concerns biomedical applications. A special\u00a0emphasis is given to the study of human brain function and neuroengineering, mostly using EEG and MRI, with applications in sleep,cognition, epilepsy, aging, neurodegenerative, cerebrovascular and psychiatric diseases, as well as brain-computer\u00a0interfaces and\u00a0neurofeedback.<\/p>\n<p>Our main objectives are to contribute novel and improved techniques for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the study of biomedical systems using\u00a0biosignals and biomedical imaging, focusing on diagnostic as well as interaction, modulation and therapeutic applications;<\/li>\n<li>bioinspired systems, focusing on the hybridization of bioinspired computing techniques with selforganization,self-organized\u00a0criticality\u00a0and diversity maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>LaSEEB has coordinated several research projects in these areas, in collaboration with partners of international reputation in the life\u00a0sciences and healthcare sectors. The lab has produced several high impact articles according to the ISI Web of Knowledge, as well\u00a0as books and book chapters, and over 20 PhD and MSc theses.
