As members of the Associate Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems (LARSyS), we asked passersby to solve a simples riddle about an engineer. In this video experiment, shared on Ada Lovelace Day 2022, most people struggled to find the correct answer, which proves our point: everyone has biases, but we are not always aware of how they can impact our perceptions of gender roles.
Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage and support women and girls working in STEM.
